Global Digital Citizenship- Equitable Access To Technology
Equitable Access To Technology
SYMBALOO REFLECTION
1. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented be appropriate?
It is not a difficult resource to monitor student feedback- if you ask for it at all, so the chances of things like cyberbullying occurring are low. Socially responsible digital use would be up to the teacher, as she would be the one using the resource most of the time.
2. In what learning environments would the resource I presented NOT be appropriate?
I think Symbaloo would be appropriate in each GDC area, but it would be the most challenging in the area of Equitable Access. There is nothing in the way to modify what the teacher finds for resources- you simply insert the resource and use it. Beyond CC on videos that have that option and creating scaffolded learning paths, there is not much in the way of reaching all students.
3. How might it be modified to be appropriate?
A teacher could find videos that would be 100% equitable in her class, however this would take quite a bit of time and research, which is exactly the opposite of what Symbaloo is designed to do. It is designed for quick access to pre-made videos and resources as supplemental activities.
4. What do you now know that needs to be considered when using technology in the classroom?
Understanding the pros and cons of the resource you are using is critical. It is important to know the resources limitations and it's values. It is also important to know if the resource you are using has any district restrictions. It is also vital to know who can see the information on the resource you are using.
